Laika Animation specializes in one of the oldest techniques in movies, stop-motion animation; for Laika’s latest “Kubo and the Two Strings,” costume designer Deborah Cook created as many as 30 copies of some costumes, using advanced technology to make them identical and workable for animation. Variety’s David Cohen visited Laika’s Portland headquarters during production on “Kubo” to learn about how she does it.
