 It appears that eyeglasses made their first appearance around the thirteenth century. At first, eyepieces were designed to be either held in place by hand or by pinching the nose. You know, those glasses that perched on the nose of the wearer.   Pre-1725 spectacles had round frames with a bow or C bridge, no sidearms and no finials. Over time, the construction of handmade spectacle frames evolved.
